George Edwin Little (1844-1915) was born in Nauvoo, Illinois. He was the son of Edwin Sobieski Little and Harriet Amelia Decker. He was part of the first company of Mormon emigrants, lead by Brigham Young, across the plains to the Great Salt Lake Valley arriving October 2, 1847. In 1859, when he was fifteen years old, he became employed by the Pony Express as a rider. His first route lay between Salt Lake City and Rocky Ridge.
